Taylor’s Theorem
The single most important result needed to develop finite difference approximations is Taylor’s theorem. Given its role, it is odd, or at least the author thinks it is odd, that web sites listing the top 100 theorems in mathematics almost inevitably have Taylor’s theorem toward the middle of the list. This is a serious misjudgment, because it should easily make anyone’s top 10!
